Whatever your reason for being here, you need a freebie.
But you don't need just a freebie, you need an amazing freebie that works to generate leads.
So how do you do it?
First of all, let's have a super quick chat about what a freebie/lead magnet is.
For this blog post, a freebie or lead magnet (which are the same thing) is a free gift given to those who join your newsletter list.
You can also use them to sell digital products/services.
It's a win-win situation that grows your email list; you give a free resource and receive new emails to add to your list.
It's one of the most effective ways to attract new leads.
An effective freebie needs to be customized to attract your audience, be in your niche, and have your personal touch.
There's no point in making one if it doesn't align with your business and entice the type of audience you're looking for.
Also, not all freebies are created equal. Some are going to generate much more leads than others.
So, how do you make crazy good freebies you're proud to give out?
There are many different freebie options to choose from, so let's go over them and then we'll talk about my favourites.
Checklist
Video series
Email series
Webinar
ebook
Digital journal
Templates
Many different entrepreneurs have used these as freebies, so you just need to find one that works best for you and aligns with your business.
I really like that a lot of these can be made using something like Canva, it makes creating them a lot easier.
My own freebie is a digital course which is arguably the most difficult to create out of all of these.
Freebies aren't all made equal.
It is my opinion, but I have seen which freebies tend to get more interest than others.
I would suggest creating an email series, online course, templates, or a video series.
It's up to you which you choose, but these are definitely my favourites!
What is something your audience struggles with?
What is a problem, pain point, or need your audience has and how can they solve it using your freebie?
If you identify a problem your audience struggles with and how you can solve it if they download your freebie, it instantly becomes more desirable.
A freebie title like "How to Become Happy" will get clicks, but won't be as effective as a title like "The Happiness Guide: How to Become Happier in 30 Days".
It is more specific and identifies the problem better than the first.
Make sure your freebie makes sense for your ideal audience.
If your niche is in mindset and your freebie is about the best museums to visit in Europe, then it won't align with the audience you want.
For example, my niche is growing an online business and my freebie is a free course about creating Instagram reels.
I've gone over this in other blog posts, but when it comes to copy you have to remember while writing that it's about them, not you.
You're talking about solving their problems, how you can help them, and why your freebie is the best solution to questions they've been asking themselves.
Keywords like easily, successfully, and fast as well as so many others can also help your copy.
As for design, stick with one colour palette you use for everything in your business.
Also, use pictures that represent what your freebie is about.
I'd suggest using Canva to make them.
If you have old podcast episodes, social media posts, or blog posts, you can reformat it into a new freebie.
For example, you can make an email series surrounding the topic of a popular podcast episode you made a few months ago.
Using a fresh idea isn't bad, but you can see which content your audience did well with in the past and use that info to make your freebie more successful!
If you've built an online audience using things like a podcast, blog, or social media, how can you get them into your email list?
You need to show them that you have one!
Promote your freebie (don't call it a freebie) by saying that it's a free resource you're giving them to solve their problem with _.
Learning to promote your products, not just your freebie, is very important to growing your business' income.
What better place to start than with something that's free?
You don't have to exclusively use your audience to grow you email list.
Reaching out to other entrepreneurs within your niche to collaborate in an online event or webinar can be helpful.
You can also accept invites you receive to bundles, virtual events, and other online things that can grow your list.
Hosting your own event such as a virtual summit or bundle can be great for this too!
To nurture new subscribers, creating an automated sequence of around 5 emails can really help them develop a relationship with you.
You need a way to set this up, so find a platform that can do this for you and is within your budget.
I would recommend spacing them out in this order:
Email 1: Send immediately after they sign up for your newsletter.
Email 2: Send the day after they signed up for your newsletter.
Email 3: Send 2 days after email 2.
Email 4: Send 2 days after email 3.
Email 5: Send 3 days after email 4.
When writing them introduce yourself, explain what you can do for them, and always have a call to action.
And remember your copy is about them, not you.
Thanks for reading this far!
Making a freebie, especially one that takes time, can feel like a huge task that is going to take way too much work to set up.
But once you have it set up you really only need to nurture your email list with newsletters and continue to grow your audience in different parts of the internet.
If you want to chat about anything I mentioned in this blog post, I'd love it if you DM me on Instagram!
See you soon!
