I can’t believe it’s been almost five years since I left Canada and moved to Guatemala!
Sometimes it feels like yesterday, but then I remember everything that's happened since I came here, and time has really gone by.
I’ve been able to live in two beautiful spots in Guatemala, Antigua and Guatemala City, and both are amazing.
When I wake up in the morning and look out my window, I get a view of volcanoes in the distance.
Seriously, it's incredible.
It’s a view that takes my breath away every time I see it.
In case you don't know me, I'm twenty, living in Guatemala, with an online business.
And one of the things I love most about my job is that it lets me travel.
I can go and explore the world and take my job with me.
Isn't that great?
And Guatemala is such a beautiful place to be.
I'm so grateful that I am able to choose where I live thanks to people like you reading this blog post. So thanks!
Guatemala is known for its coffee, and you’ll find local coffee in just about every café you walk into.
I’ve become a huge coffee lover because the quality here is incredible!
Knowing a lot of the coffee I drink is grown right here in the country makes me love it more.
Since moving to Guatemala, I've lived in 2 towns.
Guatemala City and Antigua.
Let me say that both are amazing and have different perks.
Antigua looks like it's out of a storybook.
There are bright, colourful buildings with cobblestone streets that make it feel like a fairytale.
It’s a place that feels lively and full of character.
And it's very green. I wasn't expecting so much of it!
The trees are everywhere, kind of like they’re wrapping the city.
On one side, there is a huge volcano. And around it, there are more.
The landscape is like a dream because of how many hills and volcanoes it has.
Guatemala City is very different from Antigua.
It's bigger and more urban, but it still is very green and full of life.
There are a lot of places throughout the city such as cafes or restaurants that serve food and drinks from all over the world!
Everything is closer to the city, so groceries are a slightly shorter trip and you can find all the necessary things within a quick drive.
But as someone who loves food, the city is a great place to be!
I have come a long way since I first got here.
I couldn't understand a single thing someone said, but thankfully I've gotten a lot better.
Now, I can easily order a coffee or go grocery shopping, which feels pretty great!
But my conversation skills aren't all that great yet, but I'm working on it.
It's a learning process, right?
Every day I get a little better!
I have loved exploring Guatemala, so here are some of my favourite places I've visited!
Antigua. I really do love it! It’s a beautiful city with so much history. You can spend your time wandering the streets, finding hidden cafes and shops.
El Paredon. If you love the beach, this is for you. It feels like a hidden paradise.
Tikal. This is an amazing ancient Mayan city. Walking through the ruins in the jungle feels like you're going back in time.
Rio Dulce. Rivers, jungles, wildlife, and seriously the most incredible boat rides. It’s a fantastic place to relax.
Lake Atitlan. Surrounded by volcanoes and little villages, it’s simply beautiful.
Thanks for reading this far!
