It's a big deal to launch your online course, but what do you do after?

Do you just leave it alone and promote it every once in a while to bring in some new learners?

We should always try to make things better.

These 7 tips are here to help you do exactly that!

You don't have to tackle them all at once either, just when you feel your course needs some sprucing up.

You can even use them to make sure you didn't miss anything if you just finished creating your course.

How to Make Your Online Course More Interesting

Before we get into it, you should understand who this blog post is for.

This post was made for people who already have an online course and want to make it better.

If you are here to learn the steps to make an online course, this blog post isn't for you.

But I do have a step-by-step guide to making an online course if that is what you're looking for!

1. Start With Your Sales Page

This is where it all begins.

Your potential learners see this first when deciding whether or not to buy your course.

First impressions matter, so let's make sure you're giving the right one.

Make a Video

A video being one of the first things potential learners see can feel personal, especially if it has your face on it.

Taking some time to make a 2-3 minute video can really help your sales page.

In this video, talk about how your course can help them solve a specific problem they're facing.

First, introduce yourself, then identify their problem, and lastly explain how your course can help them by solving their problem.

This should feel friendly, not too much like you're selling them your course.

You can even talk about how you also struggled with the same problem to make it feel more personal.

Take a Look at Your Copy

Similar to the video, your sales page's copy should also talk about how your course can solve their problem.

Once again, it should sound friendly but to the point.

Talk about the specific things they personally struggle with and how your course can help.

A sales page isn't about you, it's about your potential learners.

Everything should cater to them.

Use Call to Actions

Specifically on buttons, add call to actions that make your potential learners want to click.

Short phrases like "Enroll Now", "Start Your Journey", or "Access The Course Here" for example, instead of the simple "Click Here".

2. Create a Welcome Email

Even if you already have a welcome email to send to new learners, tweaking it can be a good thing.

It doesn't hurt to go back and check your wording and how it looks!

Make it Personal

You've heard the word "personal" a few times now, but it really is important when making a course!

Use the learner's first name when saying hello.

Thank them for enrolling and tell them how excited you are that they're starting this journey.

Showing your appreciation can make them feel important, and they are!

Tell them what they should do next such as how to log in, a general gist of the course's structure, and any important dates or deadlines that they should be aware of.

Make it as easy as possible for them to get started.

Also, let them know what they can expect from the course and what they'll have learned by the end of it.

Invite them to join any online communities that you have for members of the course.

Give them as much info as possible, but make it friendly and try not to overwhelm them!

3. Everything Should Look Consistent

The design of your course and everything related to your course is important!

It should all have pretty much the same design.

Same colours, fonts, font sizes, and even layouts if possible.

I find this makes everything look consistent and more professional.

Start by choosing a colour palette that you're going to use throughout and change any colour that doesn't match to one in your colour palette.

Then, pick one or two fonts and use them in everything, once again changing any font that isn't one of them.

You can even make your own inspiration board that you want your course to reflect in design.

4. Edit Your Videos

A lot of courses already have videos, but have you taken the time to edit yours?

I know a lot of people who enjoy edited videos more, especially since it gives them a more professional feel.

And remember, just because I use the term "professional" doesn't mean it can't be friendly.

Editing lets you give your own personal touch to the videos!

You can add graphics to help you get your point across and cut out any time you have too many filler words.

Putting in captions can also be helpful if you have software that lets you.

5. Make Extra Material

Listen, one of my favourite parts of courses is the materials they have included inside.

Not kidding, I used a course when I first started my blog to help me and the templates that came with it were extremely helpful.

Here are some ideas :

  • Templates

  • Checklists

  • Homework

  • Additional Resources (such as reading)

  • Quizzes

6. Make Your Course Easy to Navigate

Changing the layout of your course so it makes a lot more sense to learners can make their experience easier.

If it feels too overwhelming, it may dull their experience from the get-go.

That's why you should start by checking if the structure makes sense.

Ask friends to navigate through and give you honest feedback about the layout.

You can go a step further and add instructions on how to navigate the course in a lesson near the beginning of the course.

Even adding a table of contents can help if you don't have one already.

Also, if you can make your course mobile-friendly it can let your learners learn on the go.

7. Send Email Reminders

When your learners buy the course, there's a chance they won't log in immediately and may even forget all about it.

That's why sending them an email every once in a while to check in and encourage them to log in.

This can be through a welcome sequence or through regular check-ins you send every once in a while.

Following up with them once they finish the course (if you can) is a fantastic way to keep them interested in you and everything you're doing.
